A lot of studies showed that the main reason for obesity are carbohydrates, sugars and fats.

Researchers at the University of Aberdeen and the Chinese academy of science conducted a research which is published in the Journal of Cells Metabolism to determine the influence of nutrients on the person’s weight.

To get to the data, they’ve fed 30 rats with different kinds of fats, carbohydrates and proteins within a period of 3 months, which is the equivalent of 9 human years.

After the research they’ve concluded that only the fats made them gain weight. Carbohydrates didn’t have an effect on the weight, while the fats along with sugars had a larger effect than pure fat. Small dose of proteins didn’t contribute to the increase of appetite.

The reasoning behind it

Although the researches were heavily critiqued because they used rats instead of people in the experiment. Scientists state that these 2 kinds are very similar when comparing them metabolism.
